So i finally have the head off ater running into a million problems.. stripped bolts..impossible turbo (i ended up cutting the downpipe to get it out.. and even out.. i still cant seperate the elbow from the turbo..).. then went to take the head bolts off.. got to bolt #5.. and rounded the shit out of it lol.. so tried some extractor bits.. involved a little drilling (super scary).. that didnt work.. bought a new set of torx bits.. got the next size up and jammed that shit in.. and finally it crackked free... eveything was smooth there.. got the head off.. and holy shit the hg was in the shittiest shape ive ever seen..

Btw sorry for the shitty pics.. i took them from my phone.

So i gotta clean the shit out of everything.. any pointers? like what u use to clean all the crap out of everything? i was thinking of using gasoline lol. and also.. what should i stuff into the oil and coolant passages? i dont wanna lose bits of paper towel in there.

Kevin 06-21-2009 03:48 AM

Soo.. anyway.. does anyone have any suggestions to what i should stuff into the oil and coolant channels before i do anything to the gasket surfaces? i dont want crap to fall or get stuff in there.

hey man, sorry no one got back to you on your question. They usually help out a lot. A lil slow lately unfortunately. As for your question I personally used paper towels when I did mine. Then before putting it all back together I used compressed air to make sure there was nothing left in cylinders and what not.

Kevin 06-21-2009 06:19 AM

thanks. you didnt use compressed air in the channels did you? (probably a stupid question LOL)

In the cylinders just to get any loose head gasket debris out. As for all the other lil holes, it's hard to cover/stop shit from getting in there. But if any other more advanced Supra owners would chime in they might have a good suggestion for you. I'm a noob when it comes to major repairs like head gaskets... although mine turned out fine for apprx 5 months :( till something in the lower end went out.

Kevin 06-24-2009 04:11 PM

damn lol. How did u prep the block? i\'m gonna be using a stock gasket. should i used a scraper on it already but it seems like there\'s still alot of material.. and i dont wanna scratch the surface

dannydavi 06-24-2009 04:17 PM

yeah it was a pain in the ass for me. Seemed like that shit would never come off. I tried scraping but was getting fed up with it not really working. So i got a cloth scrubby pad thingy for a grinder and went to town.. i figured it was something i could bend with my finger it couldn\'t possibly tear up my block to bad :P in some spots it worked great and got rid of the gasket. In other spots it just smoothed the gasket out and made it harder to get off lol. Just make sure you take a straight edge to it all when you get it cleaned and make sure it\'s within the guidelines and you\'ll be alright.

also i\'ve read in a different post that even after my hg job.. i might run into rod knock very soon? i had milky oil :S soo the oil was contaminated with coolant. before the job i didnt have any knocking though.

dannydavi 06-24-2009 04:23 PM

yeah i didn\'t have any knock either. But 5 months down the line, my bearings were slipping and sure enough now my Supra is not working. I\'m sure that\'s not super common but it happens.

Kevin 06-24-2009 04:35 PM

Was everything running fine after the gasket job? how about just before the engine siezed? how\'s u know ur bearings wear slipping? sorry for all the questions.. but now i\'m having second thoughts of keeping my supra after my hg job.:(
