supra or 300zx

which would you rather have a 1990 supra targa top all stock or a 300zx with a exhaust 1994 model and which do you think would win in a racethe supra is stock and the 300zx has a exhaust thats all everybody that drove my car said i would win and i own the supra

dunewarz 05-13-2009 08:52 AM

If the 300zx is non turbo I'm pretty sure it'll lose. The exhaust really doesn't help much. 300zx and Supra are pretty much equal in power and speed. I've never seen two race before so not sure. You can go check on youtube.

free up the exhaust on the supra go 3" turbo back and see the difference that makes. the stock exhaust is extremely restrictive.

thakiller009 05-14-2009 12:28 AM

whats that mean a new exhaust all the way

justin1642 05-14-2009 12:59 AM

it means get a downpipe and cat back or downpipe and go to an exhaust shop and have them bend some pipe to finish the exhaust if you want a cheap way. you can use a high flow cat or test pipe (just a straight through pipe) if you don't mind not having a cat. once you free up the exhaust you'll notice a power increase and faster spool.

thakiller009 05-14-2009 01:10 AM

how much would that cost

justin1642 05-14-2009 01:20 AM

that depends on how much your willing to spend. the downpipe can range from $100 (ebay) to $300+ including the turbo elbow (hooks on the back of the turbo connecting to the downpipe) and catbacks are $400+ and the exhaust shop could cost $100 - $200 for the pipes the test pipe $50-$100 and a muffler with a 3" inlet $100.

Cheap
downpipe $100
turbo elbow $100
muffler $100
test pipe $50-100
exhaust shop pipes $100-200
Total $450-$600 roughly

Right Way
downpipe $300
catback $450
test pipe $100
Total $850 roughly

do some research and figure out what you want out of your car.

thakiller009 05-14-2009 01:25 AM

i want it to be done the right way and would i still need the turbo elbo or not my is not turbo but later on when engine blows getting 7mgte turbo

justin1642 05-14-2009 01:33 AM

my bad i assumed you were turbo ( i should've asked) no you won't need a turbo elbow then. i'm not sure if its still called a downpipe if its n/a cuz it connects to the exhaust manifold not turbo so i'm not sure. my first supra was n/a and all i did to that was cut the cat off put in a test pipe and get a muffler and called it good. can't remember if n/a exhaust is 2" or 2.5"? i wouldn't worry about the exhaust then until you go turbo.

thakiller009 05-14-2009 01:43 AM

oh k thxs bout that my car has 218000 miles so this summer going to gat a turbo motor and still you think supra would win in a race vs 300zx

justin1642 05-14-2009 01:50 AM

both 5spd? if both are n/a it depends on the driver and transmission. autos are better for drag race but 5spd is better for everything else, i like 5spds cuz you actually drive the car.

thakiller009 05-14-2009 01:53 AM

both 5 speed and 300zx has 3 inch exhaust and how much hp would i get

justin1642 05-14-2009 01:57 AM

honestly i don't think you would get much hp from an exhaust with n/a. so as long as you can shift smooth and get through the gears quick you should win.

thakiller009 05-14-2009 02:02 AM

k thxs and is 7mgte turbo a good engine

Very good engine, sometimes the head gasket blows tho.

Btw 300zx= crap, nissian had to put turbos in them to get them to move, also check the turbo lines at night, they'll be red hot. Nissian makes bad cooling systems.

thakiller009 05-14-2009 03:25 AM

is it hard to replace or what all you have to do toreplace it

Curtis 05-14-2009 03:30 AM

i have no experience with head gaskets, but i think they are a weekend job + some for sure.

most people usually drive supra 7m-gte's till the head blows.

thakiller009 05-14-2009 03:32 AM

then what do they they get a 2jz

When someone blows a head gasket, they just replace it. When the 7m-gte's were mass produced the head gasket wasn't torqued enough. When they put a new head gasket in they torque it right up, almost making it impossible to blow the head gasket.

Personally i'd take a supra over a 300zx anyday, way nicer IMO.

thakiller009 05-15-2009 02:45 AM

what makes it torkey and srry for asking so many ? just bought my supra

justin1642 05-15-2009 03:40 AM

the stock hg was torqued at 55lbs or so from factory and some just retorque the stock head bolts but most use arp studs n bolts and retorque at 75lbs. other than that its a solid motor. the 2jz takes some modification to get it in a mk3 the other option is a 1jz that drops in if you have the right motor mounts (89-92)

thakiller009 05-15-2009 09:43 AM

k thxs for the info

thakiller009 05-16-2009 06:35 PM

and would a 1989 supra targa top fit a 1990 model

thakiller009 05-19-2009 04:59 PM

fuck that i think the supra looks a lot better than the 300zx any model of the 300zx the 1992 model supra even looks better than the 300zx
