I've got it narrowed down to 3 Supras...an 87 NA, and 86.5 NA and an 82.

Which is the most cost effective to tweak?

How much can I expect to spend to get er fast? (without a swap)

of ur 3 picks...hmm...they're all pretty much equal. have you looked into an 86 or 85?

an 82 is a Mk2, which ARE lighter...plus they have a certain muscle car look to em. I'd have to look up stats, but I don't think the engine is that bad off compared to the 7m's. Personally, if you want to hang, you should try and find a turbo car...

82s are only lighter because of the fender flares and rear wing. a 7mgte into an 86 would be give the best power to weight ratio.

yes you can tweek a n/a engine, but not nearly as much as a turbo.n/a mods beyond exhaust ,intake and ignition timing are very expensive.next you would look to individual throttle bodies ,increased cam profiles, upgrading valve springs, porting the head, boring cylinders larger, all of this would cost you so much it would make your head spin.start off with a good condition turbo mk3 .this way you can upgrade more easily plus you will not have the dissapointment with the lack of power the n/a's provide.i once owned an n/a there were just as many problems as the turbo(blown head gaskets),once you drive a good turbo car compared to an n/a version trust me there is no going back.do it right the first time and you won't have to lie to yourself saying this n/a is fast enough for me.hope this helps.
