Supra running super advance....
My supra is acting really weird. I have a code 52 (knock), so I did a timing test. When I rev the engine the timing gets super advance. From what I know it should be getting retarted due to the knock sensor issue. Could anyone who has fixed the problem let me know how you fixed it. I would like some input before I start working on the vehicle to save some time and head ache.
Thank You |
It's almost a guarantee that your knock sensor wiring is messed up. That wiring tends to go bad far more often than the knock sensors themselves do. Toyota makes a rewire kit for that exact problem, or there are a couple of mods using coax which can use to fix it.

As mirage83 said, more info here.

Thanks Bill. Knew I'd seen that mod before, but couldn't remember which site it was on.

I'm not sure I understand what hes trying to do. He has the main middle wire and the net wire. He connects the middle wire to the knock sensor. Connects the net wire to ground.
But when he gets to the ECU he does what? Is he pretty much just connecting the ground wire to the knock sensor wire? Can't you just get a single strand electric wire and tap an extra electric wire on it to ground in the engine bay? Could anyone explain to me a bit more about what he does when he gets to the ECU? Also I couldn't find the manual for the knock sensor wiring, does the knock sensor need to be grounded? Thanks for the help.... |
In my post I said my timing becomes advance instead of retarted, anyone have that issue?
