Transmisson Swap 1987 NA mk3

MY AUTO transmisson is going out in my 1987 supra and i was wondering what was needed to put a 5 speed manual Trany (auto sucks) in. I would appreATE ALL the help i can get

You would need a manual gearbox, bellhousing, driveshaft, clutch and brake pedals, clutch master and slave sylinder, a clutch and clutch line... anything else im missing? ecu maybe? idk.

Now the Auto Tranny in my 87 has like a power Button and lights for that stuff is that stuffg going to interfere with the 5 speed???

Are you talking about TEMS? The sport button and comfort button with the 4 lights? Correct me if i'm wrong.. im not familiar with the automatics. If it is the TEMS then it shouldn't interfere

i also need another wiring harness, the wires that go to the tranny r
totally different

The auto tranny has the "Normal" and "Power" mode, basically alters the shift pattern of the transmission. I do believe you need a new harness, so those won't matter. However, your gauge cluster will still have an "O/D" spot on it, whereas the manual obviously does not. Also I am pretty sure that your gear in the differential are different to compensate for the 3 speed w/overdrive auto tranny versus the 4 speed w/overdrive manual tranny.

You should get the proper ECU for the engine and transmission combo you plan on running, otherwise you will probably have a CEL on all the time for the "Neutral Start Switch" and would need to hardwire your reverse lights for them to work.

So you should get:

Complete transmission (bellhousing, gear box, etc.)
Fywheel
Clutch
Master and Slave cylinders
Brake and Clutch pedal assembly
Clutch lines
ECU (optional)
Wiring harness (optional)
Driveshaft
Rear Gear
Gauge Custer (optional)

That's all I can think of, I know some of it has been mentioned earlier in this post, thought I'd make it easy ot see

If you really want a 5 speed - you are better off selling what you have and buying a 5 speed - unless you are very handy and experienced in working on cars in a major way!

carl's right. your probably better off buying a manual.. and selling your auto (no one needs to know about ur tranny going shh!) jk. up to you. it probably cheaper that way.. unless you are a mechanic. and have a different car to drive daily.
