Default Good engine builder in PacNW?

I just spent over $10k on a rebuild for my 7MGTE, and it sounds like crap; knocking, ticking, missing, etc. I pulled my old motor because the crank pulley wobbled the end of the crank snout, chewing up the keyway on the crank. It ran 13's at 105mph, pulled 300rwhp on the dyno, and purred like a kitten at idle, except for the clunking crank pulley, just days before I pulled it to fix the crank.

Now I'm pissed, cause it sounds like it's got rod knock from the moment I started it. Quality work is soooooooooooooo rare these days.

I'd like to build my other motor (i have 2 7MGTE motors), but I don't want to spend a bunch of money to get back something worse than what I started with.

Does anyone know of a good shop in the Pacific Northwest (I'm in eastern Washington State) that does top-quality rebuilds with no tolerance for sloppy work, maybe even a warranty?

Anyone had a good rebuild done anywhere? Ever? Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

The alternative is a Toyota OEM long block, new head casting, then valves, cams, etc from Toyota. About $8000. But at least the rods won't knock and the pistons won't slap.

Thanks for the info, Nate. It has quieted down considerably recently, and the slap from the forged JE's at cold startup seems to be getting better. So what mods have you done to push 700+hp from the 7M. I haven't switched turbos yet, still working through break-in on this rebuild. But a new turbo is on the list, just haven't picked one out yet.

Anyone have any recommendations? What are you running? Stock EM, or T4 headers?

I'm just lookin to clear 400whp and keep it as a grand touring car, not a dragster, more for autocross and long haul mile gobbler.

Hey, I found you! Sorry to hear the bad news on the engine. I'd be pretty upset too! Infact, was upset w/ local shop that ruined my better opportunity to sell a blazer while 4x4's were in season. Probably will have to wait till next year to sell it >( .BTW Got any pics of your supra online? -Sam

Hi Sam.

I have a few pics of the car online. Check out http://s658.photobucket.com/albums/uu301/tsupranami/

I'll have to update some of them when the car comes back from the shop. It'll have new IC pipes and FMIC, and new seat/interior upholstery. We'll be putting it on the dyno this wednesday to tune in the cams and injectors. Should be fun!
