Odd cooling leak
 

The other night, I had (luckily) just pulled into my driveway when I was confronted with steam blowing out from under my MKIII, on the right side. Best I can tell so far, it's from a rubber boot that covers a tube end coming out of the block back between the turbo and the firewall. Same thing blew 5 years ago. What the heck is that thing? . . .. seems like a weird design to have a rubber booted stub like that. Are there any better solutions to just replacing that boot?

Is this the one? on later models Toyota capped the pipe with a metal cap as part of the pipe assembly. More pic`s in this Link for right-hand drive. You can see why Toyota capped the pipe, so it could be used for left or right-hand drive Supra`s, all to do with heater matrix feed and return.

Thanks for the reply and for posting the diagram. Yeah, that's it, as far as I can tell peering down in there. That rubber cap is covered with old oil and feels very soft and spongy, but I can't verify if that's where the leak is. I've got to get a pressure tester to find out what blew. I'm long overdue replacing the oil seals on top of the engine, and all the vacuum lines, so I'll get a better look once I get into that.
