Off to the Chassis / Welding shop
 

I have to part with my Supra. But only for a day. It's going to the local Chassis / Welding / Performance shop tomorrow. Going to weld in the mounts and make a transmission crossmember. Once it's welded down tight, it's only a matter of bolt ons and hook ups. Whooo Hoooo!!!

The welder done a real good job. Really pleased with the transmission cross member. The Engine plates welded in are extremely sturdy. Sweet. Just a matter of a few bolt ons and I'll be ready to roll. Need a driveshaft now.....

Here is a video of the completed weld job on the engine plates and transmission crossmember. Had a video up the other day but it was to dark and couldn't see much. Oh it's so close now. Won't be long before a test start. Need to put down the camera, turn off the computer and pick up some wrenches. But, I hope that the next person doing this type of swap can learn something off my experience.

Nice job so far man! I like that you didn't go far a ford v8. I see a lot of people that swap a ford 289 or 302 into their 80's japanese sports cars. It's nice to see a slight twist on it. I surprised tho that you didn't consider a 1uz or 3uz. Maybe those engines are more expensive tho. I can't wait to see the finished project; it's gonna be fast. Good luck man.

Making progress. Not much left to do now. I'll have this thing up and running shortly. Need to take the 2 driveshafts and have 1 made. The second driveshaft was pretty easy to find at the local salvage yard. From a 1986 Chevy truck with a 700R4. Also picked up some tubular exhaust that fits nice too! This thing however, is nickel and dimin' me to death though. It's all the small things that add up quick. Transmission and throttle linkage, hose, clamps, belts, universal throttle linkage kit, PCV valves, dual transmission fluid coolers, wire, gaskets, flexible firewall mount transmission dipstick, etc. Anyway, here are a few more pictures of where I am now.

I'm exhausted. Spent most of the day working on the car again. Took the gas tank down to remove the in tank fuel pump. Going to run a Holley external fuel pump & pressure regulator. Mount it right next to the tank where the rear exhaust heat sheild was. Won't be needing that shield, I'm going with sidepipes. Extended the fuel pick up tube with a clamp and a piece of hose. Will have a filter mounted prior to the pump.
Wired up the electric pusher fan, the starter cables, power for the accessories and ground cables. Bolted the starter back on. Bolted the exhaust headers on. Took out the spare tire. Cleaned up the garage.
Tomorrow, bolt on the fuel pump and pressure regulator. Screw in the spark plugs. Unbolt the flywheel to torque converter (2500 rpm stall). Fill the engine with oil and antifreeze. Tighten up the alternator belt and wire it up. Spin the oil pump with the oil pump primer. Install the distributor. START IT UP!
Only things left to purchase to make it driveable is the driveshaft and the rest of the exhaust. Sooooo close, I can't wait. Just in time for summer.

hey watsup, I'm not gonna be a big old grump like the others so this is what I think: I reckon your doing a good job, Panting with a lot of caution, working hard to get it all done and keeping it cheep.
I hope it is finished and you can do a drift (I like drift)
