Any Problems i should know?

Hey everyone, i've just been trying to find information on defects and problems with this type of car, i'm in the middle of paying off a 1989 mk3, black on grey, right hand drive, GT twin turbo, its only got 87,000 km/s i looked for rust everywhere but came up empty handed, i need to know what else to look for, problem wize, i really like the look of these cars, and it's my first supra so i want to make sure she runs as well as all of yours do :) if i could just have a list of things to look out for or to re-check next time i go to finilize the deal and pick it up,

thanks guys

(on another note, where would i find the hydrolics for the hood, and rear hatch, as they are a little warn out )

Do you have any details in regards to the mods that have been completed on this vehicle?

Absolutly non except for an engine timer, but thats a given to les the turbo's cool off afterwards right...

These are things that I have come across myself after I purchased the car:

Leaks, either oil or transmission usually. Just be cautious, because even after I drove it around for awhile, no leaks, after about a week of owning it, I have a very small and slow oil leak, haven't had time to track it down, yet. Radiator had a small crack it it that I didn't notice until later. What I think happened was the seller had everything cleaned and these things would not pop up until the car has been driven for a couple of day.

Targa leaks a bit, found out with the heavy rain we've been having.

Rust in the spare tire area, you wouldn't see it unless you took out the spare tire.....ended up leaking through the rear taillights. Replaced the gasket...it's all good, now.

ABS doesn't work, but the brakes are fine otherwise.

Heater doesn't work.

A/C doesn't work.

Fog lights don't work.

Security system doesn't work.

Speakers are usually blown.

These are things I found after owning two 89 Turbo Targas and seeing many others as potential buys. Now mind you, all these things were not from one vehicle, but from both and others I looked at. I still have an 89 and love it. Just expect to be doing some work on the car. I'm not looking forward to the BHG.

Here's are quick fix for you or anyone else. The shocks on the hood were blown, so I cut a piece of rubber tubing and cut it down the middle and put it on the shaft of the shock, works greats and is not noticeable and easy to take off and on.

i have yet to have a great look at the belly of this one, but i haven't see any leaks, as of yet, ( these leaks would still come up if the car was parked wouldn't they, ? )

and i guess a car wash would be a good test for the leaky top,
take it to a lube shop and take a good look at the under carage, i would also like to know if theres an easy way to tell if the turbo's are shot, cause this car seems too nice to be true at the price im paying.

Nope, not necessarily.
