[B][B]hey. i was wondering how much can i boost when all i have is a intake and exhaust?? what is the safe range..? can a mkiii take a gsr? cause i lost to one by a fender and figure if i boost my turbo just a little i might take him...?? anyone knows any quick mods? thanks :D

depends on what your mk3 is. 1g-gte's can take a few extra psi easy, most mk3's can comfortably run up to just below 1 bar boost without stressing much at all. most you'll have to get a fuel cut defender, as boost cut varies, but is mostly about 11-13psi depending on car and weather, etc. as for the gsr's, they're easy for a 7m mk3. raced a evo 6.5 on the open road and gave him one hell of a shock. off the line would be different due to weight, power delivery, etc, but above 50k, they're easy.

[B]it has a 7mgte in it ...i heard it was suppost to boost 6.5 stock but when i mash on it the boost gauge stop at 4 ..does that mean im boosting 4 psi?

hey :) welcome to the forum... obviously you have a 7mgte... with intake and exhaust you can boost about 11-12psi without hitting fuel cut... probly run 10psi would really be better
are you auto or manual... autos generally boost less than a manual... also 4 on the stock gauge is not measuring in psi... it's inhg or something lol
are you looking at the stock gauge or have you got an aftermarket one?
if it's aftermarket and reading psi it should say on there what measurement... if it is stopping at 4 and it reads psi then yes
many things can cause low boost

let me know this bit and i'll continue :)

it is a manual ... and it is the stock gauge... :P so 7mgte can't or can take a gsr stock..?? first time i took him by a car but the second time he took me by a fender..all i wanted is to smoke him cause it is the type that talk smack...haha.. i think he mess up the first or did i messup the second i don't know...i figure i can take him by alot cause i have a low mileage car...i have aa 30k mile jdm 7mgte in it..do you guys know what ill hit stock in a 1/4 mile? or what do i need to be hitting 13's in a 1/4 mile that is how fast i want to go...but was wondering what i need to put in there....thanks alot :D sorry for dumb question but im new to toyota..i usally race with honda and acura... B)

congrats on upgrading to a great car hehe

ok stock gauge doesn't read in psi... i would say you are boostin rather well... the first thing i would do tho is buy an aftermarket boost gauge so you know what you are boosting

no i don't think you will take a gsr stock.. we do 15.3 average on the strip bog standard according to reviews
just get a boost gauge and a manual boost controller and wack her up to 10psi and see how you get on :)

i'm doing 13.5's on the 1/4 with.....
trust airnx filter
3" exhaust from turbo elbow back
550x300x75 intercooler
2 1/2 intercooler hardpipes
to4e ct26 turbo (upgraded compressor wheel)
manual boost controller (used only to get on boost faster... not actually turned up) i run 9psi stock with my setup
exhaust side of the head port matched to the gasket
hks fuel cut defender (type k is needed for the 7mgte)

and questions are never dumb :) thats how you advance and learn not to blow up your engine ;)

i just bought a garrett turbo_compressor a/r 1.10, exhaust housing a/r.84, compressor inlet 3", outlet 2 3/4 ..exhaust inlet 3 5/8" outlet 4 1/4 ..and have a custom intercooler,550cc injector not in the car yet...when i put that on how much can i boost and how close am i to be hitting 13's like you...or what will i hit in a 1/4 mile ? oh and what is good for a turbo i6 7m..3" pipe or a 2 1/2 pipe.(downpipe)..cause some people say to big is no good ...but some said for turbo car the bigger the better...and one more thing do i need that fuel cut defenser..and what up with the lexus afm do i really need that ????tlhank...hahah i want revenge on that gsr...hahaha :D

suprra_girl 11-20-2004 08:43 AM

well with that setup you should be able to run 15psi safely on a stock engine and not blow anything up... just make sure you have the fuel to supply it.. 3" downpipe should be good for now... bigger downpipe you go less torque but more flow so therefore more power at the end of the day
if you spent all that money on the upgrades i would spend the extra and get an aftermarket ecu... if that can't happen get an safc and a hks type k fuel cut defender and make sure she's tuned....
fuel is really really important.. more so than really anything else...
the lexus afm is a trick just like the fcd for the ecu... it sucks in 25% of unmetered air which is why you then need 550cc injectors to counter as they are 25% larger so they match... fuel cut is raised to about 20psi i think...

if you can tune it all correctly you should be in the 12's ;)
you'll nail that gsr hehe

ahhh..yeah nice car mate..it measures in mm of Hg, which is mm of Murcury...i am trying to find the conversion factor from mmHg to BAR...i think that it is around 620mm of Hg to 1.0 bar = ~14.3psi

I am new to the turbo crowd .And I just wanted to know can I get more boost out of my stock turbo on my 91 Supra with a manual boost controller. Thanks
