Downpipe
Well i got myself a stock 88 turbo supra for my first car, since first going on this forum ive notice that most turbo supras have a down pipe in them. i dont know much about this. anyone willing to explain to me how it works and wat it does?

The turbo's biggest downfall is the restrictive exhaust housing. The better your turbo is allowed to breathe the faster your turbo will spool.
BIC Performance Products w/ Divorced downpipe for the wastegate it the route i went, vry high quality piece |
So pretty much it just makes the turbo more efficent thus adding boost? and therefore power? Do i have to run the down pipe back into the exhaust? Wouldn't it just be better to just run a second exhaust pipe from the turbo to the back of the car? I think it would look and sound damn sexy.

The downpipe is the piece of exhaust between the turbocharger and the rest of the exhaust. Look on the back of your turbocharger and youll see a 90 degree bend leading down to the exhaust beneath the car...that is your downpipe.
A bigger one will allow more flow through your exhaust, letting your turbo spool up easier, thus faster...and make more power. |
