its new 2 me

hello guys i have a 89 astrovan that i put a 88 turbo supra motor n and i need 2 no if i can put a newer intake manifold on it? like a 1JZ intake manifold or anything else u guys can think off, cause i hate tha way the intake pipe go's across the valve covers so any help wood b appericated

come on guys i no some1 out there can tell me if i can or not

I've been looking for something, too. The closest I've found is a 1jz-7m hybrid. They cut the 1jz manifold and the 7m itake manifold at a point where the intake runners will match up to the 7m intake runners. Then, weld them together. The key is to find a 1jz intake and a good machine shop willing to do it.

i have some1 2 weld it back 2gether 4 me so got that covered, now im wondering what if anything i wood have 2 change on the 1JZ?

If you have the capacity to weld then it may be easier and cheaper to just make a front facing intake manifold, with a larger throttle body.

If not then modify your current intake manifold to a front facing status, as in cut open the front side of it, then weld the old TB hole up and put a new flange on the front side of the manifold, that way you retain all your stock engine parts but have the front facing intake.

Good luck.

if u have an idea of what i wood need 2 build a new 1 plz share the info or point me n the right direction. also its goin 2 b a cover vehicle so it has 2 look super clean i have a guy thats goin 2 make me a brand new harness and wire the motor up 4 me so all i got left is the intake manifold issue and the clutch pedal issue, since a van is auto and my trans is 5 speed anyways thanks 4 ur help

Well you will need some aluminum tubes and sheets, I have a quick SolidWorks 3D rendering of one, its by no means to scale I just threw it together. The red lines in the first pic are where
the welds would be for the tube and sheets.

Here is an example of a FFIM using the stock lower intake manifold on someones car.

thanks alot and where u find that picture at i wood like 2 get ahold of that person and ask him question about his intake manifold

shiftysupra 09-16-2008 08:04 PM

chambers your awesome. gonna go buy the tubing to make one :] pics soon

supravan 09-16-2008 09:32 PM

chambers if u made 1 the way i needed it how much wood you charge? your best guess. and just let me know at my email danielwhly@yahoo.com and then i could send u pics of what i have done so far and u could get an idea of how much room i have 2 work with and thanks again for your help

Well sorry to say, I do not have the skill or capability to weld aluminum at this time. If you need any help in designing it, I do have the ability to make technical drawing that any welding shop will be able to follow.

I would just need to know some dimensions of the aluminum stock your going to use and some of your engine bay dimensions, I do have a stock turbo manifold to get the dims of the runners and bolt holes from. If you want me to help design it send me a pm and I will send you my e-mail for dimensions and pictures.

Good luck.

i dont no what size of pipe to use and ill send you want ever you need to design it four me, just let me know what all you need and ill get it to you asap

Chambers 09-18-2008 10:11 PM

Ok, sorry for the wait, I have the lower intake manifold. From that I will start building the concept on SolidWorks. I will talk to a few people who have made the FFIM before and ask them on what grade metal and what thicknesses to make it out of. When I get an idea on the metal I will let you know.

By the way, that van looks freaking sweet!

supravan 09-19-2008 01:45 AM

wouldnt it be the same thickness as the runners are on the lower part just curious, and when your able to design it could you make it to wear its as close to the block as possible and where the throttle body would come out where the alternator bolts up, you no in between the 7M-GTE on the time cover and the alternator pulley and it just needs the stuff that is on a factory one and thanks about the van i thought i would build something that hasnt been done before and alot of people love it so thats a good thing well just let me know what i can do to help
