I was told by an owner of an 89 Supra, that Toyota had a recall due to the faulty design of the head gasket on the Supra. I have an 86 that blew the head gasket recently at 72K. Does anyone know if this is realistic that Toyota would do this for cars 15-20 years old. If so, do you know how to contact them regarding the matter. The owner has only had the car 2 years.

No, man. I believe its impossible... They dont care about for cars above 5 years old.

Hey :)
Toyota didn't do a recall for a head gasket design what toyota did wrong was they only torqued the head to 58ft pounds whereas it should be 75ft pounds to get your 86 done properly, you need brand new head bolts or upgrade to arp head studs, an aftermarket head gasket will do well... you can either spend the money on a brand name hks greddy etc or get a custom metal head gasket... metal head gasket is definitely the way to go get your head and block surfaced and get the engine reconditioners to crack test and pressure test it and check for softness, if your head is all good not warped etc and your block hasn't got any bad pitting or corrosion then a metal head gasket, new head bolts and torqued to 75ft pound should be sweet as... if you need any help regarding this send me an email or check out my site www.supra.co.nz and i'd be happy to help :) suprra_girl@hotmail.com Good luck Suze |

hey,
just wondering if a warped head is common in '87's and if a warped head could b confused for a blown head gasket, and if these problems arise on NA models thanks email with response kyle_leonard9@hotmail.com |
