Long story short, just bought a 1987 Supra with the Turbo motor. The motor is junk but the rest of the car is in excellent condition. (Got the car really cheap.) I have a low mileage NON-turbo motor. Can I swap the turbo gear from my exisiting motor over to the non-turbo motor? (Sorry, haven't learned all the lingo yet.) Or is the internals of the non-turbo motor different? If this isn't possible, (this might be a sin) is there any problem in putting in the non-turbo motor as is? (I realize the exhaust will be different, I'm worried about computer controls.) Thanks!

your about to have a world of fun.... yes, you can put the non turbo engine assembly as a replacement-HOWEVER, your chances of it exploding are much faster since the internals are different. but there have been some guys to do it, i just cant remember the site. when i find it, i'll post it for you.

ive never heard of anyone doing so, but if you think about it, its going to be a nightmare. finding a way to setup the ignition,(non-turbo is distributor run, turbo uses cps) hard wiring the computer, the afm....i would look into using the turbo setup.

use non-turbo block/head & internals
with turbo assembly, ignition and electronics
use a manual boost controller to keep boost between 4-5 psi.

i think the biggest problam you would have is keeping the motor oiled. on the turbo motor there is a seperat oil jurnal with sprayers in the block. . i tryed it once. it lasted about a week at low boost. but good luck

this is what you do sell both the junk motor for parts and sell the other one running right, then you take your new money and buy a jdm 7mgte the just slap on a ct26 to get ya started, tada new turbo set up in your ride,
dont forget to have a Coke and a Smile, changing that thing to a non turbo is a headache form helllllllllllllll

Thanks to all. I'll go for getting the correct replacement motor. To answer a question, the motor that is in there now knocks very loudly. I was told it was a rod bearing although it is just as loud at the top of the motor as it is on the bottom. (Problem occured after the head gasket was replaced, 131k miles.) Oil pressure is pretty low too. I don't think it would be cost effective to rebuild it with current availability of used motors.

well my only advice for the new engine... since it's not in the car... do the Head gasket
