Nope. http://www.i-supra.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif 86.5-88.5 are the same ECU, using yellow plugs. 89.5-92 are gray plug, and the wiring pins are different. http://www.i-supra.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

They are NOT interchangeable.

You can use a newer ECU however. I Know some models have Some safety additions and then theirs TEMS as well.
So long as the ECU is '90-92, yes. TEMS has nothing to do with the ECU. It has it's own computer...

I'm not sure if that plays a factor but you should be able to use it regardless. Oh yeah make it sure it also fits your transmission type, thats important too. http://www.i-supra.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
It only matters if he's automatic. If he's got a manual, it doesn't matter at all. Manual cars can use automatic ECU's and wiring harnesses, but not the other way around. http://www.i-supra.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

NO NO NO.

The automatic ecu is not the same as the manual ecu.

That's why they are clearly marked as to automatic or manual.

how can i tell if the ecu is not working? would it still crank?

btwilson86 07-19-2008 06:04 PM

The engine would still crank, but if your ecu didn't work at all the engine should not fire. As for cranking the engine over, there's not computer in that circuit. It's just wires, fuses, switches, and relays.

What's your car doing that makes you suspect the ECU?

sevenmgte 07-19-2008 06:33 PM

that's what the tech said, and when i got it home did a diagnose on it my self. the check engine light just flash none stop.

btwilson86 07-20-2008 07:06 AM

So what's the car doing that's abnormal?

sevenmgte 07-20-2008 03:39 PM

yea that's not normal. well i found another ecu the #'s almost matches mine check it out mine-89661-14240 17000-1471 his-89661-14280 175000-1511 so i was thinking since his #'s where bigger its a newer model right? so what u gays think bid end soon. i found it on ebay
