I don't know if supramacist is joking or not, but that is terrible advice. It sounds like you have a blown head gasket. Without taking the engine apart, i don't see how your mechanic came to the conclusion of a cracked block vs. other things that cause the same symptoms. Check under your oil cap/check your oil. Is the cap white underneath? Is your oil milky looking? Dont drive or run the car anymore until you know the problem and fix it.
