boost issue

Hello everyone,
I am looking for some help. my boost gauge goes from -2 to +4 in my bone stock 88 supra turbo. i just got it and it really fast but on my gauge, its saying im only getting 2.5 psi of boost. i dont know why cause it feels like im getting more than that. i checked all my intercooler tubes and they were fine, i also replaced all the vaccum lines but my gauge still only goes to 2.5 at WOT. is it possible that my gauge isnt working properly? or is there something im missing? I just bought this car last week and it has a JDM engine. Please give me your thoughts/suggestions because im starting to get a little frustrated. ps. I shimmed my wastegate and it didnt make my psi any higher????!!!

Where have you got the line coming from for your boost gauge? What brand boost gauge?

im an idiot!

its just a stock boost gauge because i just bought the car. after trying to figure out the problem, i finally realized that the gauge is in mmhg not psi. therefore im a dumbass! haha anyway i shimmed my wastegate with 3 washers, but i still only get up to about 3mmhg on my gauge. im new to the turbo scene so im wondering if maybe i have a bad wastegate? also, when i rev up my car in neutral, air comes out my bov. is this normal? i have a new bov on the way so maybe that will help. any suggestions about how much boost i should get with a 3washer shim would be great! i checked all my intercooler tubes and changed all my vaccumm lines as well.

Blake

PS. i've been waiting for you to reply to me suprra_girl. it seems you know more than most! :x:

I actually had a suspicion that you had a metric dash being it only went to +4. Now we all know why hehe.

Your boost at +3 is 5.8psi

Does the boost drop off as you are throttling?
When the air comes out of the blow off valve is it coming out while accelerating or once you've backed off.
What bov is it, and i assume it is running atmospherically?

its just the stock bov till the one i ordered comes in. and ya, i made it run atmospherically. i didnt really notice but i think it only blows when i let off. and i havent drivin it much but it doesnt seem to drop as im givin er. i know my accordian hose is on its last leg but thats before the turbo. just wanna try and get the best boost i can on the stock system for now. know what i mean? OH, and i forgot to tell you that when i blow air or wd40 into the dump end of my bov when it's idling, the car stumbles and/or stalls.

K put that bov back into the intake, it will solve any stalling or close to stalling issues you may have when pulling to stops etc
The bov should only blow when backing off and it will release the backed up air.

Ah sounds like your bov is leaking.... so it's a good thing you've got a new one on order, that will be your boost issues. Get that fixed and boost should be alot more steady :)
