inconsistant idle

Sorry to bother you all with this question, but I just need your best opinon. I got my 89 manual na to idle at 700 and timed it. but every time I start the car and drive it a few miles, it jumps up and idles over 1k (usually 1000-1100) and I'm just not sure if I should be looking at the tps or the isc. I'm just curious from your experiences, where should I start?

Test the IDL switch on the TPS, clean the ISC (Idle Speed Controller) inside and out, test the ECU's coolant temp sensor and test the AFM.

hehe, test everything, got it, thanks

Oh, that's not everything... not by a long shot. I've got a nice big list for ya if those don't pan out. Check those items than we'll move onto testing signal voltage at VC, Resistance across E1 and E2, testing the coils in the ISC... hehe... just keep hoping it's something from that initial list.

I'm just fooling around man.

It's been a long time around these forums:).

alright, no signal from the idl on the tps. Should I just replace it?

cre 05-04-2008 12:26 AM

Might as well replace it. It is a wear component and it's almost surprising how much nicer the throttle response is if the TCCS is getting a clean signal.
