Just hit 200,000 miles

My car is a 90 non turbo.I drive it everyday my other car is a 94 vette vert that I only drive once in a great while. When I do drive the vette I realize how slow the supra really is,but at least it looks cool,it's a head turner more so than the vette.
Only thing that bothers me is when I start it in the morning it smokes for a second. My guess is vavle seals.I think a head rework would kill my bottom end. What do you all think.I plan on keeping this car but if it starts smoking when I drive I will have to put another motor in it.What would be the best one?I don't want to spend alot I would like to have a little more power.

Why would a head job kill the bottom end? I say just do it.

These engines have a really strong bottom end. As long as there are no knocks, and the oil was changed regular, I'd pull the head and look at the cylinder walls.

Chances are you'll still see some hash marks, which is a good sign that you will be alright with a valve job.

You, know, I was told that same crap when I fixed a BHG on my Toyota P/U with the 22R. The truck had 250K on it. When I pulled the head, I could still see hatch marks, so I know the bottom end was good. The machine shop didn't want to do a valve job, because they said I'd wreck the bottom end with re-freshed compression. I told them to do it anyways, and was able the hang around while they did it. Put it back together, and it drove great. The engine was still running great at 325K when I sold it.
