which gasket?
I have an 89 non Turbo 7MGE. bought it with a BHG, got the ARP studs on the way now I just need to get the HG. I am confused on which one I need though. I see so many different bore sizes and height differences I don't know what I need! what is the stock bore and stroke for the 89 7m, and how thick does it need to be? I had the head surface machined, but they only needed to take off .007, he said no thicker gasket should be necessary. Please help! what is the difference between stopper and bead?

I'm not sure about everything but I will tell you what I know, the thicker the gasket the lower compression will be. For a NA it wont really matter how thick, but I would go for a 1.2 or 2mm, because it will not see any boost, so you wont need a thicker gasket to hold it. Hope this helped.

yeah, I was thinking about going 1.2, now I just need to know the stock bore size, I think it may be 85mm, but I've also seen 83mm, and I can't imagine how you would make it smaller... I'm so confused

Yea, it would never get smaller in diameter, you can only take metal away. lol.
I would call the place you plan on buying it from and ask them about a head gasket for a stock bore size. |
when they shave down your head they will tell u how much they took off
use that and get a headgasket that much over sized so if they took off .18 get the 1.2mm head gasket and so on as far as the bore just go stock |
Maybe the smaller one is for sleeved cylinders???
Also this thread made me think.... I got mine bored .020 over do I need to get a diffrent head gasket than stock bore??? |
hehe, I'm glad I got you thinking! have you already put the motor back together? I'm guessing not, but I could only assume that you would need a wider than stock HG. Since most places only give mm measurements, you may want to get ahold of a digital inside micrometer. Boring the 7M seems to be so common anywhere that sells the gaskets should be able to tell you what you need if you give them the details on what you've had done. Good luck to both of us!

if you have a 7mge y dont you build it a high compression monster instead of going with bigger head gaskets. go withsomthing smaller and real strong. run 94 poctane or better. car will sound nice and run realy nice. i knw 2 guys that did it. its pretty fast for an N/A. just dont decide to put a turbo in the long run.big trouble

I don't have time to tear into the motor to do any high comp mods. I'm just trying to get it running. I just ordered an 84x1.0mm HKS bead type mhg from horsepowerfreaks.com

if im not mistaken i think the 7ms are 86mm bore. jus make sure u get the write one. hks is really good. but u have to machine head and block. its a must or else you have a good chance of leaking.
