Please Help!!
I have a 1987 Supra Turbo. My problem started last night when my check engine light came on. I checked the code and it came up 52. According to the manual it's the knock sensor.
Can any one tell me where this is located adn if it's a easy part to change?
I would also like to know if this is a common probelm with this car and if so is there an better brand of sensor to buy?

there are 2 knock sensors on the intake side below the intake in the block . done any work on that side recently ?

I sent you a email. No i haven't done any work on the car at all. I went to drive it and then the light came on. When I ran the codes it shows 52 knock sensor. Do both have to be changed? Are they easy to do?

only time my sensor acted up was after putting the head back together the connector wasn't seated right . the sensor on the back is tucked in next to /behind the starter . i've never changed the sensor but i don't think you'll be able to change with out removing the intake . hopefully there is another option as to why it's throwing the error

This being my first turbo I have been using premium gasoline. I also added a boost which increased the octane from 91 to 100. Could this cause the code? If I chose not to change it what might happen? I do not race the car or really do anything besides normal driving.

there's a short circuit in the wiring there somewhere

first thing i would do is join a wire from one knock sensor wire to the other.... go for a drive and see if the light comes on

if it doesn't then one of the knock sensors are working...
next, unplug the rear knock sensor and go for a drive, if it still doesn't come up with the check engine light then knock sensor #2 or plug is faulty

if the light does come up then #1 would be faulty... to double check, plug in #2 again and unplug #1 and take it for a drive
for the check engine light to come on you have to rev past 2500rpm

also unplug each knock sensor and visually check the wiring, is it still good or has it broken?
with age and heat they tend to deteriorate :)

Thank you I will try that. When I drove it yesterday I am now coming up with code 34 which has something to so with the turbo. Are theses related? Where can I locate the knock sensors? Would the knock sensor cause the other code to appear? I also want o know if I don't correct this will I cause any damage to the engine? the perosn I bought it from put a Nisson Motor with 40,000 miles in it on 4/2003

I love this car and want to keep it in tip top shape
