Default Import used Japanese engines

I got a X-mas present of a 89 7MGTE turbo but the engine blew. Does anyone have success stories of used Japanese import replacment engines

I am currently installing one, only problems so far have been the motor mounts, wire harness and heater hoses. The motor mounts were due to the different year engine and car, so that can be avoided, the wire harness was an auto from the engine, but manual for the car, and since the years were different, I had to buy a new harness from toyota. The heater hoses had to be modified because the one was on the wrong side of the block.
But the engine did have the original spark plugs in it!
I will let you know in a few days how good it runs.
