haha so i did it
well i gave in and dived in to redo my valve seals to find out my hg was really close to being a bhg the composite one the fucktard put in did not have holes for the water jackets on the block and still slapped it on so it slowly seeped water ahhaha but i orderd an hks metal headgasket with the bead im going to be slapping that on then im bringing my head to toyota tommorow to be put through a wash in their tank yay clean it ll up then i am just going to be reusing due to that fact that im a poor 17 year old who is broke due to insurance payments and the car payment but before people start bashing that im reusing the head bolts ive seen a guy who used them on a 560+hp motor succesfully not a bhg yet to date so i think i will be fine

Reusing head bolts= not a good idea....
Bolts are made to stretch as they are torqued. Head bolts (even though they are torqued low from the factory) that are 20ish years old are gonna be less prone to stretching as they should, especially since they have been that way already for many years, so you'll run an extremely high risk of snapping or stripping them. I'd strongly advise you replace them, because you're not gonna want to get in there again to redo your new hks mhg. Look into the ARP stud kit for our cars... It'll set you back somewhere around a hundred bucks, but they'll last alot longer than your used, stock ones. Also make sure you get that head and block machined so that they're perfectly smooth, otherwise your mhg will give out fairly quickly... Replacing your head gasket isn't cheap, so make sure that you have yourself a little bit of cash to replace anything that isn't to spec on your motor too, as now is the time to do it. |
id listen to him, he knows what hes sayin, sent my car into toyota with a bhg, to find out my block was fucked, so now im useing my old block, gettin it machined all nice, got my head machined all nice 2, got new graphite coated gaskets and ARP Head Studs :D cant wait till shes done!

dont get the stock one get arp ones. not much more then stock but much better. if u plan on get more horse power dont cheap out when ur aready there.

The stock head bolts are not torque to yield meaning they are not the stretch type bolts, the bolts that ask for an extra degree after the sequence are the bolts that stretch. I bought the stock head bolts from Toyota cause its only like 60 bucks and you can torque without worry of aged stressed bolts. I torqued them to 70 and they held fine. ARP makes a great product but unless you are trying to build a drag car there is really no need for them.
Reusing head bolts isn't a good idea because the heating and cooling of the block over time can not only warp or ok maybe stretch but also make them brittle and as your torquing **Snap** now youve got a big headache. |

I suggest getting OEM head ones, thats what i did
arp ones are great, price wise not so much. I think like the economy, OEM toyota parts are dropping in prices like this website http://toyotapartszone.com |
