Car doesnt like to idle in the morning
When i first start my car up in the morning after its been sitting all night the car doesnt like to idle. it will idle about 100rpm and sometimes it will even die. When i step on the gas i can hear the intake suck in air but the car doesnt rev up, in fact the car drops in idle. but once i put my car into gear and drive its fine. and once the car is warmed up it will be fine until the next morning. any ideas on what could be the cause of my problem?

probably the cold start injector
yeah thats what i was thinking i just wasn't 100% sure. are the cold start injectors the same from the turbo motor and the nonturbo motor?
hell if i know lol i doubt it but you never know
yeah because i have a complete turbo motor sitting in my friends garage. im taking it apart and putting better internals in it and all arp studs and bolts. but if they are the same i was just going to take the one off my turbo motor and throw it in. thanks for the help.

brake booster, brake booster, brake booster. i have the same problem the car will crank and it will flucuate in revs and when you try to press the gas it like to die then rev up like 4 seconds later. i thought my cold start injector, which it still might be but i lost my brakes the other day and when i lost my brake my engine went weird reving slow reving high flucuating, and the brake booster was making weird sounds so look at the cold start injector or the brake booster.

or it could also be a boost leak sumwhere
Actually, i replaced the brake booster like 2 months ago. i still have all of my brakes, and it only happens in the morning. once the car is warmed up it idles. so i know its not my brake booster, and as for the boost leak, my car isnt turbo.

a vacuum leak then lol
yeah, i also thought about that. but wouldnt that cause the idle to fluctuate all the time and not just in the morning?
x2 on vacuum leaks.
A lot of the time the vacuum leak will go away after warming up due to the metal parts expanding and sealing the leak back up. Pinch off your brake booster hose before starting it one morning to rule it out. The cold start injector won't make it idle bad, just makes it take longer to start on first start, but once it does start the injector shuts off. If it cranks for 15-30 seconds before starting, then look at that injector. Do you have a check engine light? If the engine coolant temp sensor is bad, the ecu uses 180 degrees as a failsafe so that the engine will still run, but when it is cold, it will run like crap. Hate to say it, but a blown head gasket will make a car run like crap when first started, but then clear up as the coolant gets burned out of the cylinders. |
actually, i found out what it was. it wasnt a vaccuum leak or my cold start injector. my coolant temp sensor was unpluged. the little clip fell out. so i plugged it back in and it started up and ran fine.
