Timing BTDC
 

hi i wanted to reset my timing because my timing belt was slipping so i had got a new one from Genuine Performance.
Can anyone tell me at what degrees the BTDC should be.
I have red the manual and it said 0 degrees but when i checked on Cygnus Website it said 10 degress can anyone help

Set it at zero and then after you get it started you shouldn't have to go past 10
when you set the timing.. Everything tdc. ZERO.

You're on the right track. Follow your tsrm over cyngus.

You are getting valve timing and ignition timing mixed up. When you install a timing belt you are setting valve timing. All marks should be lined up when the crank pulley points to ZERO. Ignition timing is when you connect a timing light and move the CPS or distributor to set the ignition timing to 10 degrees before top dead center (BTDC).

You do know how to use a timing light right?

If you are just replacing the timing belt and NOT removing the CPS or distributor you will not have to reset ignition timing. The CPS or distributor is cam driven so as long as you line the cams up correctly ignition timing will remain undisturbed.
