1986 Turbo Automatic Transmission Rebuild?

Have any of you done a rebuild of the four speed with overdrive on the supra with trubo?
I am wondering if there are any special tools required or special expertese required to do a rebuild job and are there any unusual problems when doing the work.
The local transmission shop wants $1300.00 to rebuild my supra transmission, and frankly I do not know enough to determine their qualifications as I do knot know if they have rebuilt this electronically controled type of transmission.

I can buy the rebuild kit for about $250. I rebuilt an Audi automatic several years ago and it worked very well. It was actually a VW automatic. However, I would like some advice from this forum before attempting to do this type of transmission.

My plans at this time are to pull the engine and transmission at the same time as I will need to change the timing belt because to the mileage and want to do a couple of gasket replacements at the same time. I expect that the complete unit removal will be easier if attached to the engine and expect that the reinstall will also be easier.

Your thoughts are appreciated.

Follow up to my own question

I did not make this a DIY on the Trubo Automatic. I paid $1,000 for the rebuild and and additional 257.00 because I screwed up the front pump and converter during the install. I found a competent re-builder that deals with these day in day out. The kit along is very expensive an I personally feel that this was the best outcome for me. There are some thinks experience teaches and the builder was able to relate these for me.
