new to forum, need some help....

hey

ive been on this forum for a while, not registered but just lurking around, getting an idea of supras in general. i want to get a 300zx, likely an N/A, but i also love supras. both are great cars imo, but i think the 300zx looks a bit agressive and bolder. even so, supras a cheaper (even the turbo ones) than N/A 300zx's, so this is why im looking into supras. im going to get a 1991 or 1992 supra, turbo of course, and I wanted to know parts that are the most beneficial (besides big things like turbos and stuff like that) for example, if you do an ecu upgrade and a cat-back exhuast on a 300zx, you get like 30 hp or something crazy like that. simple parts delivering a shi*load of power  what i haven't mananged to find yet is reputable ecus? i just need a list of BPU's that will really help me i guess

thx in advance

Are you planning to work on it yourself?
If you are get a supra
You get to enjoy an inline6 motor
And a huge engine bay
A topmounted turbo
And basically almost evrything that you need to work on is very accesible

300zx are nice, if they are the TT version
Don't ever get the na, its a heavy ass car probly heavier than the supra
And good luck working on that car
Engine bay is a clusterf**k
Literally there's no space to work on in there

Its probly one of the cars that I dread to work with

ya, im trying to get a TT, not gonna waste my time gettin and n/a. and the engine bay is like the super bowl, no place to sit! but the supra has some exterior issues. im trying to find a body kit that isn't ricerish, as i hate ricers. something "clean" and the headlights, problem. but i pm'd some guy on here, and he makes custom headlights that don't open (like the 300zx shape, but smaller) and the black plastic thingy, ew, need that shi* OFF! theres some mods idk if im able to do, and if it woth it, so thats why im not sure if i should get a supra. the interior though, no problem. i think im going to start modifying the exterior before i even touch the engine though. and where can i get a damn ecu for an mkIII? the only ones ive found is for 93 and up....

I got a spare ecu, but not selling
They are getting hard to get by these days

Exterior-wise I guess it depends on what floats your boat
I love the oldskool boxy look
More than the curved cars of today, I love the stock widebody, and the bodylines of an mk3

Headlights can easily be replaced, I thought about that headlight kit b4, but I think, it kinda ruins the look of the supra for me,
I got another idea for the headlights,
There are clean bodykits out there, you jus gotta know where to look
Or you can always jus keep it simple with a lip kit instead of a whole bodykit

If you want a TT supra you're looking for 94 and up MKIV models.

So now you're talking and easy 25/35k. This is a 2jzgte.

Unless you want the MKIII and then you are looking for a 1jzgte.

its a spare ecu, jsu a stock one , jus in case sumthing goes wrong with mine

i got a fuel computer on my car,
i think youre talking about a standalone unit
that doesnt necesarilly give you power at all
it depends on how you use it in combination with your mods
tuning basically is what im trying to say here

redmaro 11-10-2007 07:20 AM

I think you should read the threads BHG's first.

An aftermarket ECU? LOL, I dont think they make an aftermarket ECU for the supra.

Theres plenty of other things you could do to get power.

AEM does sell a standalone unit for our car
but they only sell it for the post 88 cars
so im trying to get a harness and ecu from a post 88 car
knowing that my motor came from a 88+ car

Toyota is telling me that they can't find an ecu for a 91 ge 5spd. Inside the continental U.S. . Are you guys getting that responce from toyota???

I hate to go stand alone just to over ride the ecu. It seems like a lot of cash.
I would gladly give 1k for a new toyota stocker ecu.

I don't feel like I have anyone around me that I would trust to send it to.

get an aem engine management unit
it plugs into the harness if youre a post 88 supra
they are about 800 dollars last time i checked

supramacist 11-12-2007 04:13 AM

I'm hoping to stick with MSD as my first choice though.

MSD made standalones?
i thought thier products are for ignition purposes

supradaddy0803 11-12-2007 05:37 PM

The 1JZGTE swap into your car from a N/A isnt that unreachable. I did mine and I have about 6500 dollars invested in the whole car. Granted I am about to put a whole lot more money into it with that F-CON v pro and stuff but I got that at a decent price. But as Supra2nr was saying it is more about what floats your boat the 7M's are nice dont get me worng but there is just as much people out there that will tell you that the 1JZ is nicer and the 2JZ is even better than that. Me personally I am tired of dealing with 7M's you can drop a 1JZ in your car and drive the crap out of it with no worries. But as I said it is up to you. Also with changing out your fuel pump, fuel pressure reg., downpipe, and putting a boost controller on your 1JZ you could be at over 300 to the ground. Not bad in my book. Oh and would a 87 n/a stock ECU work for your car cause I got one laying around.

supramacist 11-12-2007 10:00 PM

You're right.

I researched msd and it's all ignition. I assumed that if aem did it msd would as well.

I found the aem you were speaking of it's black with yellow insignia.
That's probably the ticket.

Thanks.

My ecu has to be a 90 to 92. Thanks though.

I started out with bhg and i ended up doing everything I could get my hands on down to the cf hood. Eibach springs and tokico shocks. Everything under the hood is new even the crank pulley.

Wait till you have to find one of those new, ha. 350 bucks.
