oil dipstick/compression Q
I have a 87 na and every time i go to check the oil the dipstick is pushed out about 1 inch. An then here recently my car died out of nowhere, I lifted the hood pushed the dipstick in and it ran fine. When its idling if you pull the dipstick it starts a surge idle then eventually dies, its like the dipstick determens how the car runs. I think that would be compression like my rings are going out but the engine only has 40000 on it. What do yall think.

Disassemble the PCV hoses and piping and clean out, and the ports in the throttlebody too.

what everybody is calling a pcv valve just kinda looks like 2 hose that come out of the crank case and going through a metal pipe to the throttle body is there some thing in there to get clogged or does the pipe just get clogged.

Someone told me the floating dip stick was a sure sign of having blowby. Is this true?

The port on the throttle body has a smaller hole, to control the "vacuum" (amount of air coming in). It can get clogged. |
Thank you.
I see mine pop every now and again. But not often. And it hasn't sinse my rebuild. But my car isn't driving either. Go figure. |
