Difficulty shifting
 

When accelerating under power it becomes much more difficult to shift into second, so much so that it makes a noticable difference when accelerating.

Does anyone else have/had this problem, and if so, is there a way to fix it?

well i got long arms and it hits the center console box
so its hard for me to shift to second
cuz i have to raise my elbow making a weird angle and somewhat twisting my wrist, so kinda hard for me to shift to second

or are you the first owner of your car, most likely not
old owner must have did some damage to the gears ie: burnouts, drifting,
and what not,

or maybe your clutch is going out

or maybe its jus me
but both of the supra that i bought had this issue,
everytime i powershift to second they grind or not go in at all

Well, interesting story: My 87 started life as an automatic (I'm not the original owner of this car, by the way). Through a series of unfortunate events I had to repair the rear bumper, tail lights and deck lid. Instead of buying new parts for lots of money, I bought an '89 with a busted engine (rod knock) for much less. The '89 had a five-speed, so on top of the body parts I transplanted, I also took the transmission.

The transmission shifts fine into all the other gears, just not second.

could be the gear for second, sum teeth could have been broken off
is it hard to get in
or it grinds when you put it in?

Just hard to get in. I've heard two solutions, one about a certain transmission fluid and the other saying it requires a tranmission rebuild.

I would try the fluid change first...specially to some synthetic fluid..
my car seems to be hard to shift to second in cold mornings or cold weather,,i still havent changed the fluid but im positively sure that's what my problem is...since as soon as it warms up..it shifts perfectly...

Hey BEFORE you swap out the fluid let me point this out, whenever you change manual trans fluid, escpecially if its old and has the stock or very old fluid in it, shifting will be VERY hard when the trans is cold and guess what, 2nd gear is the worst to use right after you change the fluid and you go to drive the car on a nice cold morning. It takes like 1000 miles for the tranny to get "used" to the new fluid. Thats why people sometimes say "if you never changed your trans fluid, don't because blah, blah, blah...." And its the same reason why you should change trans and gear oils on schedule since it was brand new. You should see how much metal comes off a brand new tranny in its first few years of life, thats why if you don't change it, it will be pulverized in the trans and turn the fluid a nice thick grey color.

the.."dont change your trans fluid " story i thought only aplies to automatics, not manual....I have never heard of any manual trannys going bad after a fluid transfussion....

Mine shift hard (well Grinds) into second when im getting on it, i think its cause the trans fuild is old, and i think my clutch i going there isnt any record of it being replaced in the past couple of years so.
