turbo-charging

has anyone out there turbo-charged their 5m-ge? if you have or know anyone that has done it, please reply back. i'm thinking of doing so. i just need a list of parts and where to get them, and probably a tutorial of how to do it. any suggestions?

if you wanna spend 2grand on your 5mge... i mean spend 2grand of doing turbo conversion... i rather go for the hks... turbo for the mk3 or 7mgte... cause everything from the 7mgte or the mk3 will fit or bolt on the 5mge aka the mk2 perfect...

it come with complete turbo set...

edelmar417 11-25-2006 08:58 AM

speaking of parts that fit

Does anyone know what parts from the MKIII supra fit the MKII supra? a list of general parts would do.

would engine parts from the MKIII supra such as:

~head gasket fit the MkII?

and also....

does any one know the different kind of bent pipes are used for the intercooler when turbo-charging the mkII? a complete list of parts would be cool....i hope this isn't too general. don't slay me if i'm abit dumb-founded.

hangsupra 11-25-2006 11:50 PM

a completly 7mgte turbo, intercooler/pipe, and exhaust will fits the mk2 at no modification... but if you use the mk3 down pipe and exhaust n your car is drop to... then your exhaust will be 2" from the ground n each time you go over a bumpy road then your car will scatch from the bottom of the car...

the 7mgte fuel injecter will fit on your mk2 but you need to re-cut the old mk2 wired and re-connect the mk3 injecter to the stock mk2 wired... and you set to go....

what you see on the mk3 will fit on the mk2...

if you want to turbo a 5m cheap, a 7m manifold bolts right up then you can use the stock ct-26 which is more than big enough for a 5m, run oil lines and coolant lines (kits can be bought from rabid chimp at a decent price) and put a rising rate fuel pressure regulator on. that setup should be good for about 9psi. bigger injectors such as the 295's are recommended along with a bigger fuel pump.

parts

anything else i'm going to need aside from those parts you mentioned?

edelmar417 11-29-2006 05:44 AM

one more thing

does anyone know if the ecu needs to be reconfigured if i slapped on a turbo?

kornkid 11-30-2006 06:48 PM

the ecu should be able to handle it just the way it is. the uprgraded rrfpr (rising rate fuel pressure regulator) should be enough to get it to run right. if you want to get more boost than 9 psi you would want to look into a super air fuel controller (safc) or the possibility of swapping in a 7mgte.

brian leiser 12-27-2006 01:58 AM

save more money do the 7mgte swap ive gone down that 5m road.im a driveabilty guy.the 7m setup runs so much nicer.7m ecu designed to run a turbo charged engine. im 1jz powered now.words cannot describe how wild it is.well maybe not as wild as a bunch aisan hookers! lol

edelmar417 12-27-2006 04:57 AM

really?

what were your costs compared to the 5m beefy set up compared to the 7m swap? anyone that has done the swap?

should be able to handle it???????do you know for fact! should be enough to get to run right!??????????only tell people if you know for fact cause if not guys like you dont know unless you built it and ran it to say yes this works.not what you replied to this guy lookin for solid information!

edelmar417 01-03-2007 08:41 AM

you know what

well my brain is pretty much fried from going back and forth on whether i should go turbo or not. since most people have done the 7m-gte swap and choose that over the 5m-gte conversion, i'll just save my money to do that. for now, just restoring the body and the car itself as my tag line says.

83restomod 03-23-2007 05:13 AM

just b prepared to spend 3-5k on a 7mgte swap. you can say im full of it but i wanted to do a low budget swap myself. like spend 2 grand but all the little stuff adds up fast. celicasupra.com will deff help. 5mgte's are cool and pretty rare but take some time to dial them in right. 7mgte swaps take just as much time and brain power. good luck
