Brakes 5M Vs. 7MGTE

Kinda N00b Question: I have a tired 5M in my supra still, but it needs some brakes kinda bad (not to mention a parking brake Y_Y), so I look through some catalogs and I see that a lot of the parts are noted to be geared specifically for the 5M motor, but I am seriously hoping to put the 7MGTE in once I get the cash flow (and uh, know how...). Will performance 84' supra brakes work alright for the new engine once I get it (someday)? I don't even think MKIII Supra brakes will fit on my MKII anyway, right?

Or should I just get ye' old typical breaks put on, and wait for performance brakes after I'm ready and have the new engine ready to be put in?

They are only refering to the brake parts as a 5m engine because that was the only motor available..You stock brake system will hold up to a 7m conversion..You cant swap over the MKIII discs because the suspension is completly diferent, but you can get some slotted or cross drilled rotors for your car..Then upgrade to a MKIII master cylinder because they give more braking pressure..You might also want to get some braided stainless brake lines while your at it..Ive heard that you can swap out to 300Z disc's and calipers though..To find out exactly go to www.celicasupra.com and search for 300z brakes...If you need to find some of the rotors i was talking about go to www.rabidchimp.com Aarron keeps all the good stuff on hand.. Good luck on your project..

Thanks much! Sorry for the long reply. I'm so new to all this car stuff and it can get daunting. :) Hopefully I'll have a new brake system (and parking brake) my mid-april (I'm crossing my fingers anyhow)

Oh yeah about the E-brake issue..If you jack up the car and get under it and look just above the drivshaft about a foot or 2 behind where the E-brake hanle meets the floor you should see a 2 way cable splitter for it..You might have just one of the cables popped out of it..You will have to take out the console to loosen up the cable from the pull handle and then you can reconect the cable underneath..You may want to take a pair of pliers and pinch the tips of the t-bar splitter closer together so it wont pop out agian..Then you can hook it back up to the handle and adjust it to the tightness you like..If the person before you tried to do a power slide with the E-brake that is what caused it..That wopuld be why they call it a Parking Brake or a emergency brake not a Power slide handle..Hope this helps..
