Front Speaker Replacement

My son got some new 3.5" speakers for the front and we are having a heck of a time getting the old ones out. There is a bolt in the side of the console and 4 underneath that I thought would allow the underside of the console to come out......but noooooooooo! Do I also have to take the middle piece out too? Ugh! My book only shows TWO bolts.

Thanks and hapy new year everyone!

i would think for speaker removal it's best to take the door panel off

all screws underneath
remove teh two interior coloured caps closest to the door hinge, unscrew two more screws
take out 2 interior coloured plugs in door handle and unscrew those two screws
remove screw from door release pocket

yank!
unplug interior light & window switch

i think that's all the screws... just double check eh ;)

then unscrew four screws from speakers

BZZZZZzzzzzzz!!Wrong..The speakers for a MKII are in the lower dash..There are 2 acsess panels you have to remove on the driver side to get at the other bolts and the lower dash will come outward and then lower down..You will have perfect acsess to the speakers then..The passenger side is easier if you remove the glovebox lid and then the liner and you can go in from the side..Its more out of site but gives you more room to manuver..Going in from the bottom works also but its up to you..Here are some pics of the panels i was talking about..http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2.../dashbolts.jpg http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2...dashbolts2.jpg
