Need help about the A43DE

I have an 84 supra with a blown trans. I only paid 500 for her so I'm not really complaining. The only problem is, ive been searching for a remanned trans for 3 months and I've turned up empty handed. I have on the other hand found a trans for a 84 Cressida and that being said is were my question comes in. I'm trying to figure out if the A43DE in the Cressida will work in my supra. I've herd there is a gearing diffrence but that shouldn't affect anything. Guess what I'm needing to know, is there any diffrence that would make the Cressida trans not work in my supra because at this moment I'm desperate for a trans. This beautiful car has set in my drive way for 3 months and I havnt been able to drive her

Guy who had it before me said all a sudden the gears stripped while going down the road and when he tried putting it in park it locked in reverse. I've peeked in it and everything is torn apart.

You have the transmission out of the car , or is the viewing from below ? . Are you mechanically minded ? ( could you repair it if given the bits ? )

I've already pulled it. I'm a mechanic but its an automatic and I'm not touching it lol. If it was a manual I would rebuild it myself but I don't trust myself to rebuild am automatic. Plus the remanned I found cost half as much as a rebuilt kit.

supra and cressida nearly had the same chassis. i can't say 100% but i think the cressida runs the same trans but with small differences. even if it is a 7mge cressida w/e trans it has it will bolt right up.

They both had the 5m-ge and the A43de trans. Somebody told me the only diffrence was the gearing but I'm just wanting to make certain before buying this trans lol.

Hi ! , I always thought that too once . I had the chance to rebuild an automatic box on a Austin Ambassador --never touched an auto box before-- so easy I surprised myself ,always good for experience . The box you have is " blown " so -- nothing ventured - nothing gained .

I would suggest though to take LOADS of pictures during the strip for rebuild after you have found out what the " damage " is . My only hope is that there are still spare parts for it .

I have 2 kids and a full time job. Not much time to explore a trans lol. Also a remanned cost only about 1/4 as much as a rebuild kit does

im willing to bet that cressida trans cost even lest. i would say just have a good look at your and have a good look at the cressida trans. im sure there the same. and really who cares about the gearing, you probly will not even notice the difference.
