new 5m build!

5mge for my friends cressida, gona start by washing the block.
going new bearings piston rings, new seals and gaskets ALL round, new w58 shifter bushings clutch.
block is going to be blue or black.

eventually i want to buy some intake upgrades as well as maby a header and cams.
if it still is around MS injectors and tires.

suggestions??? ideas?? open to anything just brainstorming right now...:dunno:

my pistons have seen better days and i was starting to wonder if oversized pistons was the right path for me, but i am not sure as to availability on 5mge pistons.
seen some on a parts list .5mm over for almost 60$ a piece.

woof, 60 a piece? to hell with that... ive been checking around on the net and havent found much better. not for over sized tho.

do they just have some carbon build up or are they chipped/pitted?

if its just build up, give em an acid bath. theyll be fine. if they are chipped or pitted, id look into some new ones and see if you can get away with just a hone. or take it too the shop and sometimes they have rebuild kits that you and it cant get. had them do that with my buddies 420a from his eclipse. whos ever heard of a .030 overbore for an import? not me, but they had the pistons, rings and everything.

hell, 6m the bottom end.

CanadianBak'inSupra 12-10-2011 05:10 PM

there is noticeable scratching below the rings, going to see if i can just have them cleaned up maby polished.
i found lots of pistons on this site:
http://www.suprasport.com/Wiseco-Pistons_p_766.html
this particular set seems to come with rings and wrist pins and even the option of standard or .020 or .040 over sized for a whopping 700$ and im sure thats without shipping...

on a side note i found cams:
http://www.gude.com/Products/camlist.php#toyota
head down to the bottem and there they are....
Camshaft 82-88 Toyota Cressida / Supra DOHC 6 Cyl – 5MGE

CanadianBak'inSupra 12-10-2011 06:24 PM

got a reply from gude.com:

Spencer the 5mge cams 540.00 plus 250.00 core deposit which will be returned at the time receive your old cams back, shipping is around 80.00 you will need to mill the cam towers to match the cams thanks bill

hmm, thats alotta dough. cuz the machine work to head will add up quick. but itd prolly make for some sick power from a 5m.

do i hear that magical exhaust note from a high revving inline six?? yes i do, haha.

if you got the dough then do it, id love to see it.

CanadianBak'inSupra 12-12-2011 01:30 AM

na this 5m is for my buddy. ill get another one after xmass maby and use a 7m bottem end with 5m pistons and 5m head.

hell, 6m the bottom end.

on this topic, i have been lookin but have not seen a reasonably priced 7m bottem end for the build. but on a side not my 84 crank was scratched and i will be buying an 82 crank and block soon.
as for the pistons, they are slightly scratched under the rings, but the cylinders on the block seem to be fine...

a big factor will be the condition of this 82 block crank and pistons.

has any one ever milled 7m pistons to fit a 5m block??? seeing as 5m pistons are discontinued???

i have not heard of anyone milling the pistons, but i dont see why it couldnt be done unless the compression height wont permit (material amount). best thing to do would be to measure a set of 7m pistons. im sure turbo pistons would be enough to clear 5m valves, but your CR would be low enough to run on cat piss....great for turbo. some boat motor builders will mill pistons to fit so check your marine builder shops.

sucks that your crank was jacked...getting the crank recon'd shouldnt be a huge hassle unless its just majorly boned..
