Question Broken Timing Belt

I have a 1984 Supra that the timing belt broke on. I was told that it would need to have the heads done as well. Is this crap? I only have 64k miles and don't believe that this year has that tight of clearence tolerance. How difficult would this be to do myself. I am very mechanically inclined Just no experience with this Toyota. My first Supra! Won't be my Last!

This is a freewheeling motor which means that there is a very minimum chance that there is any valve damage. Go ahead and install the belt, it's not that difficult.

Look here for some help.

5MGE's are non-interference engines, so unless you were spinning 6500rpms at the time the belt broke, you're more than likely just fine.

btw, it's head, singular, not plural. we only have one
