RMS stands for Root Mean Squaired. to put it another wat that is the constant power the amp produces. the max is the power it can produce at any given time but the actual power rating you want to look at is RMS

Take it from me i am MECP advanced certified!

Check it out. if you series speakers together you will raise the ohm load (4ohm + 4 ohm =8ohm) parallel (4ohm +4 ohm = 2ohm)

"mono block" amps are 1 ohm stable, with the lower the ohm load the higher the power produced. so to answer your question you need to find out

1 how many subs you want
2 are they dual or single voice coil

after that calculate ohm load to see if you purchase the 2,4 or 8ohm subs

not all mono block amps are 1ohm stable! i have one that is only 2 ohm, and learned that the hard way. I also used to compete SPL with an old Orion HCCA 225. it was classed as 25w x2 but it was 1/2 ohm stable. it was about 600w loaded down
