Alarm Hell!!

I have a 1985 Toyota Supra. Just today alone, my car alarm has gone off all day. The only way for the alarm to even go off is when I open the driver side with my key, don't ask long story. The car is parked outside on the street in front of my house. Nobody is near it at all for it to go off, I don't understand and need ANY advice besides disconnecting it! I am in a desperate situation here, cuz I don't want the neighbors to complain, being that I am going away on vacation soon for a week! HELP!!!!!!

Ahmad88 06-26-2006 02:46 PM

disconnect the battery while your away

kelogg 07-30-2006 06:29 PM

my friend has a 89 and he is having a similar problem.. he bought his from a auction for a grand it had looked like it had been in a little fender bender. he fixed that but for some reason the alarm goes off all the time for no reason what so ever and he dose not know where it is to disconnect it.

Alarm Hell!!

My son and I just bought his 89 Supra and the Alarm does the same thing, so far I always go through the passenger side, but would like to fix it so we can access the drivers side without setting off the alarm, we would like to keep the alarm intack just in case my son decides to install other audio equipment. Is there any input on preventing the alarm from going off!!!!

kelogg 08-24-2006 11:32 PM

are you turning the key the right way when unlocking the door? cuz on my friends car if you turn the key the wrong way while trying to unlock the door the alarm will go off

volto 10-24-2006 12:11 AM

I have the same problem in my 86.5 supra, if i unlock the drivers side the alarm goes off, but not from the passenger side. I hardly ever lock my car as a result. This means I have not put money into a stereo cause it would just get stolen =/ If anyone has a solution let me know!

Ahmad88 10-24-2006 02:49 PM

take it to an electronic car shop and have em check it out.

OfnaRcR 11-16-2006 05:23 PM

I'm not sure bout that but is this related in any way to me not being able to unlock my drivers side door with the key? Is there some kind of security thing that locks the lock?

Ahmad88 11-17-2006 12:00 AM

You know that i remember , my supra did that to me a few times. I would lock it and the alarm would turn on but the door wouldnt lock and when i opened the door the alarm went off and i had to lock and unlock it to turn it off.If you cant figure it out then take it to a shop get it fixed professionaly and safely.

anybody try replacing the key switch on the door it might be possible for the age of the vehicles that might be the problem, i have yet done it to my 89 7mgte just wondering.

I just had my first alarm experience. Just a bit ago(2:45 am) i was testing a few things in my stereo. I just built door pods and wanted to hear how they sound so i went somewhere secluded. In the middle of it all i locked my door from the inside and coninued listening. After i was done i put in my key and off i went. Just a few seconds later i hear my alarm go off and my lights are flashing. WTF. I was stranded there and couldn't get my car started so i had to get a friend to tow me.
Can i just go to toyota and get a key-thingy to arm, unarm, my alarm?

Appearently what the guy said was they didn't make a key fop for my year. What he told me to do is unlock my car from the passanger side every time. Was the car designed to be like this? Seems kinda stupid to me.

redmaro 12-19-2006 05:08 AM

I also have to unlock my car from my drivers side or the alarm will go off. I dont know why but this started just a few weeks ago, it didnt do it before.

Hi

Always remember to disconnect the battery when you are away.

Cyberguy1992 04-06-2009 11:12 PM

ever since i put a remote start on my car ith the keyless entry my factory alarm sets itself sometimes when lock it with the remote then no matter how i unloc it the alarm goes off.
so i was going to try to fix this problem by puling the fuse and cutting all the factory wires that go to the locking system. and put in my own wiring setup using only the factory motors and switches. Just havn't got around to it yet.

so it seems that many people have this problem, because my 86.5 non turbo has done it several times at like 7 in the morning as well! So annoying... so does anyone have a solution besides disconnecting the battery or going through the passenger side? lol

cre 02-27-2010 05:34 AM

You've got a couple options, including: remove the stock alarm system and install an aftermarket; replace the switches mounted to the back of the lock cylinders; integrate the stock system with a keyless entry system.

AFAIK, disconnecting the battery won't reset the alarm system if it's already been set off.

86.5 supra alarm blues

My car alarm has a mind of its own. The security system had me blocked from starting it. Took it to a shop. They grounded that portion of the security system and it starts fine. The problem is now an alarm that goes off at all hours and the only way to stop it is to disconnect the battery cables. This is getting to be a pain in the butt. Took it to another shop to have the whole system bypassed. Another ground and an assurance that the system was off. That night, beep, beep, beep. Nobody seems to know how to get oround this problem. Tired of paying money without results. If anyone has knowledge of this system and how to defeat it I would be eternally grateful for the info.

What I ended up doing was removing the starter connection (the one that just plugs in) and with a wire brush scraped away any corrosion or grim and tried to do the same thing with the side that is on the started. I sprayed some liquid wrench in there and wiped it all off and i haven't had a problem since. Also, I think the alarm computer is somewhere close to the igntion switch... try taking it out? I am not sure if i'm right on that, but it could be worth getting more info on.

crshbandit 06-22-2010 08:44 PM

Wow, can't believe that someone hasn't come up with a solution for this problem yet. I have the same problem with my 85 and it is getting worse. Cmon, somebody has to have found something that solves this permanently!

cre 06-23-2010 02:40 AM

Oh for the love of.... well... whatever...

Download the wiring diagrams and PROPERLY and COMPLETELY remove the system..... that or just fix it. It's OLD hardware... and it wears out... why is that so amazing??!? :rofl2:
