It sounds like the guy at the tire shop is being honest with you. Yeah, fire and rubber don't get along. The bushing will likely melt when heated and need to be replaced as well. That is not included in an alignment and that is why the tire shop doesn't want to mess with it.
New polyurethane bushings are available for pretty cheap. I would suggest stock rubber bushings if you use the car for normal daily driving.
