are you losing fluid??
sounds like a leak if the pedal doe's not come back on its own.
when my master went i could build up pressure by pumping the pedal and it was enough to stop, the O-rings inside the cylinder went bad overtime.
this is like day 4 of your post its time to bleed the freakin brakes!!!
thus narrowing down your search for what is wrong...
