tranny issue possibly

Ya i got myself an automatic supra just for gettin me a to be with a little fun in between. I had my mechanic do a gasket job everything is good with the engine and all. BUT! i think i have some sort of transmission issue. Probably once or twice a week the car gets really sporty like hi acceleration. while majority of the time i find myself accelerating like a turtle. Now the car is doing fine so far but i can't help but think that the transmission doesn't always start in the first gear. Any help on this would be much appreciated!!!
