Default HELP! Suspension Mods on 86.5 and 16" Tire Sizing Advice *FREE*

I need new tires on my 86.5 that will work with 16X7 rims. I am searching threads and could use help making a final decision. I want to lower the suspension for better handling. My recent mountain run revealed a good bit of body roll making it hard to hold your line in longer corners. I watched a old Supra commercial, even new it looks as though the body rolls over pretty good., the stock shocks are most likely shot.

Here are the facts;

1) Daily driver, I love this car.
2) I want better handling but not a abusing ride, if possible. I am really physically beat up from the sudden stop that occurs at the end of a motorcycle crash. Several violent crashes over the 35 years.
3) Money is tight. Is usd stuff a good idea? Seems a little risky to me.
4) I like the idea of running a wider rear tire, do the rims need to be wider to do so?
5) The current 225/55-16 tires are just to get it on the road, their bad.

What would you recommend for suspension mods and tire sizes?
Where would you buy them?

I appreciate all your input. Thanks
