pretty sure you're in the right section, but I've noticed a trend w/ this site is threads typically go unanswered until 1 or more replies appear on the topic list.. so maybe just my posting here will get you the attention you need.
However, as to your question, it's purely cosmetic and fairly easy to answer. Personally, I chose to go w/ a quick $25 "What you can't see won't make you look bad" solution by just throwing a dash cover up there... however, when I can afford it, I do intend to have the vinyl reupholstered... and if that's what you're looking to do, that's all you have to do... you wouldn't even take your car to a mechanic, but I'd probably feel better taking it to an auto paint, body & detailing company just to ensure it's done right. Professional upholsters might be able to do, but I'd imagine dash work is a bit different than fixing a couch, I'd prefer someone who's dealt with it time and time again rather than someone who makes an exception every now and then.
