More wear, yes... in a few places; also harsher on the gears as you move between on throttle and off throttle conditions...

Aluminum is the lighter choice, steel is the stronger choice. Aluminum reverberates at a higher pitch than steel and as such you see a fair number of people complain that the Alum DS is loud.

There are a LOT of factors to consider. I posted in a thread about this recently, do a search and you should be able to find it readily enough.

Remember! Each of the MKIII drive shafts are different lengths and use different yokes.

Reydio, local shops can fabricate them pretty quickly and usually do it for less. $150's a bit lower than I expected though and I'd be inclined to ask what wall thickness, outside diameter and grade steel their planning on using.
