Default 2JZ VVTi or 1JZ VVTi Engine swap.

I was given an old 1965 car to restore and I plan on building it from the ground up. I won't say the name just because I think some might get offended since I am taking a Toyota engine and putting it in an American classic. Ha ha but you can find out for yourself if you visit my blog.

That is If the name of the site does not already give it away.

Anyways with that aside, I want to buy a JDM package off ebay and one that include every accessory. I am torn between a 2JZ VVTi and 1JZ VVTi. I am looking for power but also efficiency and MPG (Hence the reason I am not interested in a large displacement V8 which is what everyone puts in the car I have)

I want a 5 speed manual only because I don't want to spend the extra $4K for the 6 spd getrad. The problem is it is very hard to find either the 1JZ or 2JZ VVTi with a 5 spd and all its accessories. So now I am considering on buying the best package I can find with an Auto transmission and then just swapping a 5 spd 154 tranny later.

Any advice you all might have would be sweet! I am looking at a swap on ebay right now that has the 2JZ VVti with an auto tranny. I would like to know what kind of mileage I might expect if I swapped the motor in a car that weighs around 1500# to 2000#. And with that in mind what can I expect if I swap the auto tranny out with a R154 5 spd. Or say if I found a 1JZ VVTi swap what kind of MPG could I expect with an auto or manual Tranny... etc, etc...

I am not looking to put any aftermarket parts to get horse power just taking all the stock parts and making it fit into my car.

This is what I think I know

1JZ vvti - 280 Hp+-, 25-30mpg
2JZ vvti - 320 HP+-, 20-25mpg

Can anyone set me straight? Thanks
