Default Frustrating electrical problem

Maybe some of you guys can help me out here. I've been reading forums for a while looking for someone with a similar problem to mine, but I haven't found anything substantial. If anyone knows of a thread that might help, please point me to it.

So, the problem is that the car will not start. When I turn the key in the ignition, it does nothing...no clicks from the starter (not even a single one), no attempts to turn over, no nothing. Several electrical systems still seem to work. The headlights, dome lights, and hazard lights work, a few of the dash lights still seem to work (door ajar light and turn signal indicators when the hazards are on). However, the fog lights, brake lights, power locks and windows, and stereo show no signs of life. The turn signal lights will also only work when used with the hazard button. They will not work when used "normally".

I say all that just to emphasize the weirdness of the problem. I have tried several things to remedy this. So far nothing has worked. The battery is new, the alternator tests well, and I have checked all fuses (they are fine). I even went so far as to remove the clutch pedal switch and replace the ignition. That didn't work, either. I suppose the next thing to try is to replace the starter or perhaps just break down and have it towed to a mechanic...but who knows? I'm at my wits end with this one, so any help you guys can offer would be greatly appreciated.

EDIT: Forgot to mention the most important part. Its an '89 7MGTE, 5spd.
