flattening it all out

my cometic hg and arp studs are ready to go, but I'm not sure about the block (head already machined) I hear so many problems with bhg I'm scared of not machining the block... but its in the car and there is no way I can pull it, and no way to get it to a shop... I have a machined flat piece of steel and some 320 grit sandpaper that seems to do alright, but there is just the slightest edge around the 1 and 6 cylinders... does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can do to prepare for the mhg with the block in the car?
