there is info on this subject. search the threads for ACIS.

ACIS is the 'butterfly' valve in the center of the 'aluminum' intake manifold. its vacuum operated.

you can safely remove the intake 'sound deadning resonator' (the big round plastic thing) from the intake, without any power loss.

Be sure to cover the new metal pipe intake with insulating wrap, so it won't absorb heat and cause 'power loss'. It is right over the exhaust manifold, after all.
