misfiring system just keeps the motor boosted, i only know of turbo cars that have this system, they use them a lot in wrc, its also called a bang-bang system, the way it basically works is that when a the turbo spools up it creates boost and when the foot is lifted off the throttle there is a bleed in boost via blow-off valve and wastegate, this is when the misfiring system comes into play, the system plays with the timing of the motor where it injects extra fuel and a spark plug is fired in teh manifold, this extra burst of exhaust gas keeps the turbine spinning therefore still creating boost when teh foot is lifted off the throttle, this elminates turbo lag when shifting, or braking, its basically like left foot braking where you prevent boost bleeding, the flames only come out because the burnt exhaust gas is ignited causing combustion, this system is not good for your car, it ruins your exhaust system from the headers down to the muffler since the heat is soo high, the system is usually run by a special ecu that plays with the timing of the of the motor, there is a button where u can have it on or off, but its not good for the motor for lonng periods of time, it messes up the the exhaust system, ive never seen or heard of a misfiring system on a n/a car, hope this answers some questions
