Default 89 Supra Chasis

Hey..sorry if this thread was here earlier...I did a search but could not find anything.

So here is the deal

I am the proud new owner of an 89 tubo supra, with 280K on the body and a JDM engine with about 48K. Inital inspecion, test drive, etc. went great, no issues. When I took the car in to have the front end aligned I ran into a snag. The mechanic found a crack in front cross member on the arm that holds the steering rack in place, and the transmission support crossmember is missing. The location of the crack is problematic because if it gives way I will lose all steering. The guy doing the work suggested getting it welded or replaced. My question to everyone is two fold, would you a) get it welded or get it replaced, and B) if you get it replaced how do you go about getting a replacement piece if I can't find a nearby 89 supra. Could you pull it out of a same year celica? Are the frames for the MKiii simillar enough that I could pull it from any 86.5-91? For reference if you have a "Haynes" manual look on page 10-3, in the bottom photo, its the piece in the middle holding up the steering rack.

Thanks in advance for any help
