the way that i know it is
the bigger your rims are the bigger the contact patch
but the bigger it is the more it decreases your stopping power
but if you were gonna go with offset
you can have wider tires in the back
i've seen cars with 18 x 11 in the rear and 18 x 10 in the front
and the size the local tire shop should be able to help you out with that no problem
